Marvel Superheros to Start Touring Next Year
LOS ANGELES â" Marvelâs superheroes will soon start crisscrossing the country as part of an unusual tour that has financial backing from investors including Steve Tisch, Roy P. Disney and World Wrestling Entertainment.
Hero Ventures, a Los Angeles entertainment start-up, said on Wednesday that something called the Marvel Experience would visit as many as 22 cities annually starting next year. Imagine a type of interactive circus of the future: a movable âdome,â set up in a field or a parking lot, will contain a simulator-style ride and âvirtual reality and holographic simulations,â among other activities.
The announcement was short on details, and a spokeswoman would not say which Marvel characters â" Spider-Man, Iron Man, the X-Men, Thor â" would be featured. But the investors are big enough names to take the venture seriously.
Mr. Tisch, a co-owner of the New York Giants; Mr. Disney, the grandnephew of Walt Disney; and W.W.E. are being joined by other backers like Maurice and Paul Marciano, the co-founders of Guess Jeans. Financial terms, however, were not disclosed.
Marvel Entertainment, a division of the Walt Disney Company, is also working on a bigger live-action arena show with Feld Entertainment, which produces the popular Disney on Ice tours. Called Marvel Universe Live, this tour will begin next July and visit 85 cities in North America before moving overseas.
